Why Prescribe Exercise?

Exercise is a powerful tool in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease!

Our team believe that doctors and other allied health professionals have a unique ability to influence and educate their clients on the power of exercise.

Patients respect and listen to their GP and allied health professionals, so just as you can ensure they get their prescriptions and take their medications, clients are more likely to exercise if you encourage them to get active. This is why we strongly advocate for the prescription of exercise.

Doing any physical activity is better than doing none. If you currently do no physical activity, start by doing a little, and gradually build up to the recommended amount.

Are you a health professional and ready to discuss exercise with your clients but not sure how? Follow these simple steps:


1.   How many days per week do you exercise?

2.   How many minutes per day?

3.   At what intensity do you exercise (moderate or vigorous)

STEP 2. SCREEN - If you have concerns about safety during exercise, then complete an 'Adult pre-exercise screening tool.

STEP 3. CUSTOMISE - Every client and patient are different, it makes sense to determine the stage of change for each patient and tailor the exercise and goals to suit. STEP 4. REFER - Some patients will need more help to start exercising safely. Referral to an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) may assist.
